Get a $1,000 credit with Google!

Google has just rolled out it’s “Print Ads” program from a limited test to the general public (the “alpha” test was in November 2006).

What exactly is the “Print Ads” program? It allows Google advertisers to basically buy ads in newspapers. While some newspapers were initially reluctant to adopt it, decreasing newspaper industry profits, have made many eager not to overlook new sources of revenue. Additionally, it is likely to introduce a new class of customers (those with “micro” ad budgets) that are currently only advertising online.

Entities that have a Google Adwords account should look for a new, additional tab entitled something like “Print Ads.” Clicking on it may show mention of the potential credit (upto $1,000) for using the Google Print Ads. One should read the terms carefully since there are some conditions. The most important are that it only applies to US and Canada and that there is an expiry date of August 31, 2007.

Google does seem keen to promote the latest addition to its family. Around half the newspapers (by daily circulation) are currently participating.

Adwords users would bid on the newspaper ad inventory. Newspapers would apparently have the right to refuse bids - this would be to protect its existing sales relationships. (Newspapers would be wary of bids undercutting deals with sales agents of major advertisers.)

(The cool thing is that you can get it up immediately and there is an extremely low minimum balance requirement. If you are going to be doing any online marketing one learns by doing, and you don’t need to use large amounts of cash for the regular adwords account.)

Update: If this idea does not appeal to you, you may still be able to get $400 from google.
